Description
A five-week series with Dougald Hine bringing together readers of his new book, At Work in the Ruins: Finding Our Place in the Time of Science, Climate Change, Pandemics & All the Other Emergencies. This is a chance to explore the book, to ask questions and to make connections with others who are reading it.
Each week’s session will take one of the five sections of the book as its starting point. Dougald will share some of the background to the writing of the book and the conversations that it has set running since it came out in February 2023. Then we’ll spend the middle part of the session in break-out groups where there’s a chance to discuss this week’s section with other readers. In the final part of the session, there will be a chance to share questions and reflections that have come out of the group discussions.
Following the main session, you are welcome to stay around half an hour or so for the “afterparty”, when we play around with the Zoom settings and have a chance to get to know each other a little better.
A PDF of notes and links will be sent out after each session. We’ll also create an opt-in contact directory where you can share any details or links you would like to make available to fellow participants, so that there is a chance to follow up on conversations during the session.
We hope this series will create ongoing connections and help you find ways to put the ideas in the book into practice, starting from wherever you find yourself.
