It started as a rumour and grew into a convivial conspiracy, a patchwork of gatherings to mark the 100th birthday of Ivan Illich in September 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now the conspiracy lives on as a map of people in places around the world whose door is open to further gatherings and conversations in the spirit of Illich and his friends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Centenary gatherings<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Illich Map started out as a way of gathering around what would have been Ivan’s 100th birthday in September 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From a hundred candles on a cake in Minnesota to Filipino noodles around a table in Hong Kong, a picnic in Sydney and a jazz trio in Tokyo, these gatherings took many shapes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
